Ben's ER Visit....Again!

Ben woke up at 3:15am covered in hives. His face looked as if he was a boxer (swollen) and his belly, arms, hands, legs, and feet were red and swollen. We gave him more benadryl and motrin but after 20-30 minutes he wasn't improving and we called the exchange. A nurse called back and after filling her in on what was going on, she felt we needed to go back to the ER. Ben and I arrived around 4:45am (Gregg stayed home since Henry was sound asleep.) and got right into a room. The pediatrician who saw him immediatly thought a pennicillin allergy. She checked him over, went to look in some books, came back and suggested oral steroids for 9 days. His knees and elbows are not as swollen as they were yesterday, he just looks miserable covered in hives! They gave him a does of the steroids and we got to leave around 6:00am. Gregg took Henry to the sitters on his way to work and as soon as everyone left, I laid Ben down and within 20 minues he was sound asleep. Poor little guy is just so tired. I tried to lay down, but kept thinking of all the things I needed to get done! I have called our pediatrican, Dr. Z and talked with him around 9:15am. He wants me to call this afternoon with an update. We were originally suppose to go see him today so he could check the swelling. Dr. Z said there is no need to bring him out in the cold just for him to look at the hives and to tell us to take the steroids. (Another reason why I love Dr. Z!!)

Thanks for checking in on Ben. Whatever this is, I think I will be officially telling people he is allergic to pennicillin. I don't want to put my little boy through this again!

I did take a couple of pictures of him today, with all the hives, but haven't uploaded them to the computer. I will have those up later today.

Happy Friday!
