Special Doctor

Yesterday I took Ben to the "special doctor" as we told Henry. Special doctor = ER. We called our pediatricain (Dr. Z) yesterday since Ben's fever was back along with some weezing and labored breathing. His cough was getting worse too. Dr. Z felt he needed to be seen right away and told us to go to St. John's Pediatric ER. What a great place to go if you must go to the ER. We didn't have to wait in the waiting room (that may have been due to the fact that my child tested positive for H1N1), but we got right into the triage nurse and immediatly into our our room. The nurses and doctor were very friendly and answered all of my questions. They treated Ben as if he was the only one there (and by the sounds of things, Ben wasn't the only patient).

They did a chest x-ray which little man HATED. This is how he felt about it:
The x-ray showed some fluid on one of his lungs. Not a lot, but enough that the ER doctor and Dr. Z felt Ben needed to be put on an antibiotic for pneumonia. Ben did fall asleep before we left the ER. He was tired from all the people listening to his breathing and taking his temperature.

When we finally got home, Henry was up from his nap. He was glad to hear that his little brother would be getting better soon. Poor Ben's fever spiked again and he was miserable before bed. He crashed around 6:45 and didn't wake up today until after 7am. He coughed a lot again last night and still has a fever today. Henry is back at school and G is back at work today. I am home with Ben. The ER doctor said for him not to go back to the sitter until Monday. G is taking tomorrow off so I can get back to work and then we'll probably split the day on Friday.

Ben is now playing which is a good sign. I think the tylenol I gave him this morning finally kicked in and he is in heaven playing with all of Henry's toys! Thanks for thinking of us and saying some prayers for little Ben. G and I are feeling better. We still have our cough, but the fever and aches seem to have gone away. Henry still never got anything! Let's hope his body built up lots of immunities to this yuky thing.
