Update

Juice box for the sick boy!

Swine flu has hit the Mohrmann house! Poor little Ben (not quite 17 months old) is the one who has this yucky mess. Yesterday (Friday) the sitter called at 11:45am saying Ben had a 103 fever, pulling on his right ear, and refusing to eat or drink anything. She said he had been VERY crabby all morning and just kind of blah, not really playing. I called the doctor since it was a Friday and really thought it was an ear infection. I picked him up, took him to the house where G was waiting for us. I went back to my meeting (it was a professional development day) and G hung out with him and took him to the doctor at 2:10pm. Around 3:15 I get a text from G that simply says: swine flu

I leave my meeting (we only had about 15 minutes left anyway) and go get Henry from the sitter. We had to have the sitter inform all the parents that Ben has swine flu. I offered to call them, but she said not to worry.

Poor Ben is miserable. You can tell he does not feel good as he wants to be held and puts his head on your shoulder and just sits there. Last night was not fun. Every 4 hours we were up, as the tylenol or motrin would wear off, he would wake up achy and crying. I slept in the twin bed we have in his room, only because the doctor said, "watch for trouble breathing." That worries me! I can deal with a fever & cough, but my poor little guy having trouble breathing scares me.

Needless to say, I didn't sleep well. Today Ben seems to be feeling a little better. When he is on the "tylenol high" as we call it, he wants to play and we can usually get him to drink and eat. His last dose was at 2:45, so we are in the basement now playing. G took Henry to the Nascar Speedpark to ride go-carts. We are trying to get him out of the house as much as possible, but in places that are open incase he gets sick too. So far, he is showing no signs (cough, fever, achy). This morning I took Henry and ran in a 4 mile race (pushing Henry is WAY different from pushing Ben!) which was followed by a kids 100 yard dash. Henry loved it and got a medal at the finish line. I did pretty well considering I was pushing a 45 lb. child, had little sleep, and the course was HILLY! I did the race last year (without pushing a kid) and thought the hills were hard. I didn't walk, even up the big "cardic hill" that other runners did walk up. I ran it in just over 36 minutes, so that isn't too bad. Henry was great. I just knew that halfway into it, he would announce he had to go to the bathroom or something like that! Thank goodness he didn't.

On top of having a child with swine flu, tomorrow is our 6th year anniversary. Each one has been memorable, and we will surely remember this one!

That is it for the updates. I will post some pictures from Henry's race soon. Please say a little prayer for a quick recovery for our baby Benton!
